The Basingstoke ladies were anticipating a tough match against the Worthing team, especially as this was the first match of the season.

There were a few attempts at goal by the Bluefins but the goal posts were playing against them at this stage. Despite having only 7 players (and still no official goalkeeper) the Bluefins defence was too much for the visiting team, with Pauline Lipscombe defending in the pit and intercepting many challenges, and they managed to force an even 0-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Unfortunately the second quarter was not as successful as Kelli Bird hit the post with an attempted push shot and several other attempts by the Bluefins ended in rattling woodwork.Worthing scored 3 goals passed this quarters goalkeeper Katy White to end it 3-0 at half time.

The third quarter started off with Worthing scoring 2 more goals but Lizzie Godfrey opened the scoring for the Bluefins and the Worthing team were caught off guard with a second goal from Katherine Walker. Worthing scored another goal to finish the third quarter 6-2.

Worthing started the fourth quarter with yet another goal but the Bluefins found a little extra energy when Andrea Mason scored her first goal for the team. This was followed by 2 more goals from Godfrey. The Bluefins brought the score line close, with Walker (now in goal) making a great save to help keep their opponents score down. After 2 more goals from Worthing it was left for Bird to score the final goal of the match for the Bluefins.

The final score was 8-6 to Worthing but it was a very good game and a respectable result for Basingstoke Bluefins. A good start to the season.
