Basingstoke Ladies 7, Basingstoke Men’s B-Team 3

When Thursday’s opponents failed to show for the B-Team’s match, an impromptu match was played between Basingstoke Ladies and Basingstoke Men’s B-Team. With honorary woman Miss Gavin Bridger in goal the ladies started well with a goal from Nicky and another from Laura, albeit with a little help from B-Team goalkeeper Steve who for some reason was trying to organise the subs when play had already resumed!

The game appeared to be going all the ladies’ way as Kelli made a sprint for goal……………before practically handing the ball to Steve. However, she quickly rectified this situation moments later by repeating the sprint to goal. This time however she produced a ‘stunning’ push shot to take the score to 3-0. The second quarter continued well for the girlies as Lizzie added her to name to the score sheet to take the score to 4-0. The B-Team scored their first goal of the match when Miss Bridger stopped a shot before ‘fumbling’ the ball across the goal line and earning himself quite a few donkey votes!

Two further goals from Laura and Lizzie took the ladies goal tally to 6. The B-Team then managed to score two consolation goals (!) – one being after some dubious defending from Laura meant she was sent out and a goal was scored as the B-Team were a man up. She would like to apologise for being a muppet but feels that she rectified the situation slightly by scoring the ladies 7th and final goal of the game.

Apparently Nicky managed a spectacular miss at some point in the match that earned her enough votes to be donkey. Pity then that I missed it!

A special mention should really go to Miss Gavin Bridger who did very well in goal (except for the ‘fumble’) and I would like to extend an invitation to him to go in goal for our Ladies match v Andover on Thursday 27th January. We’ll even find him a lovely pink swimming costume if he likes……..
